While using formal assessments I, myself can learn about areas ware they students have still have problems. This is very important because they will see this material again on their final/midterm and it tells me that I need to spend some more time on this during the review to these tests. If the material is needed to understand the next topics at hand then I know that I will have to try to teach it to the students again, using the test to find the misconceptions that they still have and fix it. To learn from formal assessment for the students, having them answer the questions that they have gotten incorrect and tell me why they chose the answer that they did. In doing this it has the students find/look through their notes to find the correct answer and after they correct the answer, I believe, it will stick with them.
